Have you seen the vintage flair going on over at Skirt as Top and Craftiness is Not Optional as part of their Vintage May series?
Oh there have been so many fun projects being shared on their blogs and in the Flikr group! It's hard not to love vintage throw backs isn't it? Clearly, I have an affinity for the "good old days" when it comes to clothes making...
And even house decorating...
And I so wanted to jump in on this Vintage May bandwagon...but I have been feeling quite overloaded lately with things on my "To Do" list and I was going to have to let this one slip by...
But then, I saw this post on making a doily collared dress. As it just so happened...just before I read that post I had purchased the exact doilies that Jill used at my Michaels. I had no real plans for them really I just bought them for "something". And then, while putting away the laundry one morning I was tucking this skirt into Violet's drawers
And remembered how, one day, I planned to put pockets on her lazy days skirts...but never did...
I so so so love this fabric, I fell in love with it the moment I saw it, it's Alexander Henry's Very berry Strawberry, and I only bought a half a yard, I think I bought it as an end of the bolt sale or something somewhere, anywho...it has an old timey kitcheny feel to me...
So, a strawberry skirt and some doilies, that's where we are...
Where is it getting us?...Here, doily pockets!
Fun, and quick and easy. Super quick since I already had the skirt made, but that is truly super easy too, it's Oliver + S lazy days skirt pattern (FREE!).
One doily, cut in half, iron the half in half to make a triangle, fold over unfinished edge and iron toward one side. Sew along the top curved part of the triangle to sew the triangle closed and then pin the doily triangle to the skirt with the unfinished edge toward the skirt. Sew along the straight edges. I used a small zig zag stitch to sew on the pocket.
Voila! A bit of vintage flair!
And, of course V loves them, in fact, I didn't move forward until I got her approval, which took about two seconds! ;)
Here's to vintage or the vintagey feel!!
Have a great day! Be sure to stop by the Vintage May Flikr group to check out more!
